It can be not being able to find that one true love in life, or even living with regret in your heart. I always hear conversations about people being together with a person they don’t love, or people talking about something they wish they could have done when they had the chance, but were too concerned about another factor in their lives, now having to live life full of regrets. Like Gil Pender says, â€Å"That’s just the era we line in†¦Ã¢â‚¬  In the 2011 film, Midnight In Paris, written and directed by Woody Allen, tells the story of Gil Pender’s, played by Owen Wilson, longing for self-fulfillment and his love†¦show more content†¦According to Rolling Stone Magazines Peter Travers, Wilson’s performance is pitch perfect to capturing the humor and gravity that Gil Pender’s role demanded. I have to agree with Travers because Wilson took on a few scenes where we were able to reco gnize his comedic rooms from other films. USA Today’s Claudia Puig doesn’t applaud Wilson’s performance as I do. She refers to his work to less than convincing of a novelist with a passion for Fitzgerald or Hemingway like he does in the film. Puig argues that unlike his comedy films like Wedding Crashers or Zoolander, Wilson does a mediocre job on the film. Based on the film, Wilson is able to keep the audience thinking and believe that he is a dedicated and talented writer. Pete Hammond of Box Office Magazine, declares Allen’s romantic comedy to be a delightful film giving Gil what he wants every night taking him back to the golden era of 1920’s Paris, to be Wilson’s best work in years. Hammond took the words right out of my mouth; it’s indeed Wilson’s best work since his comedy film, Wedding Crashers. Jon Maguire from Confessions of a Film Critic, sums that Wilson plays a key performance to a film romanticizing Paris’ beauty a good one. Of course I’m not arguing with Maguire, only adding onto what he critiques is that Wilson keeps he audience engaged for the duration of the film keeping us on the edge of our seats. â€Å"Nelson Mandela was the symbol of justice, equality, and dignity.† (Obama, 2013). He was born in Mveso, Transkei, South Africa on July 18, 1998 as a Madiba clan (Les Prix Nobel, 1993). Since he was young, he always dreamt to be able to contribute to create a free and democratic country where everyone could live in harmony. He started his anti-apartheid movement by joining the African National Congress (ANC) when he was 20 (Cachalia, 2013). He was first banned in 1952, and was finally arrested on 5 December 1995 due to his â€Å"radical activity† in the ANC (Nelson Mandela Biography, 2014). He actively directed many peaceful campaigns to raise the apartheid issue. He wanted to put an end to racist, unrespectable policies. From him, I learned that there are two essential keys to achieving our goals, which are dream and attitude. In his lifetime, apartheid had become such a culture in South Africa that almost no one was brave enough to confront the policies. White-skinned people continued to suppress the presence of black-skinned people. Only some people would even dare to dream of a free, respectful country. However, that was what Mandela did. He believed that he could contribute something for his beloved country. Through many peaceful fights and campaigns, finally, he successfully changed his dream into reality. Actually, it was his attitude that had pulled so many attentions and respects from all over the world, not only me. He patiently waited and fought for his ideals. He fought everything with his warm smile and wise mindset, which had made him a big, highly respected figure all over the world. There are some similarities between Mandela and myself. I have a dream, which of course is different from Mandela’s. I have a dream to be a successful businessman in the future, and I will try to do my best to achieve that goal. Rather that just yourself Essay She went and complained to the manager about the girl and threatened to have her mother close her account with Milwards unless the girl was discharged at once. Milwards, in jeopardy of losing one of their valuable customers, did exactly as Sheila wanted. After realising the extent of her involvement with the girl Sheila feels extremely guilty. She wants to learn of other peoples involvement to soften the blow of the news she has just heard. In this way she feels she may not be completely to blame for Evas death. Sheila tries to convince her family to tell the Inspector about their own involvement straight away. She hopes that by doing this they will feel less guilty and shocked when the inspector breaks down their defences, which she knows he will inevitably succeed in doing. Sheilas reaction to her contribution to the girls suicide indicates that she appears in a better light than she did at the start of the play. She seems to be more considerate towards others and feels genuinely sorry about what she did. However Gerald informs the family that there is no Inspector Goole and that the whole thing is an apparent hoax. There is no Inspector Goole in the police force. We can see that Sheila has truly learned her lesson. She and Eric are the only two characters who take responsibility for their actions. She is ashamed of what she did and horrified at how the others are reacting by laughing the whole thing off, youre forgetting one thing I still cant forget. Everything we said had happened really had happened. If it didnt end tragically, then thats lucky for us. But it might have done. I think Sheila has now realised that community is important and that we are responsible for one another. At the end of the play Priestly uses time recurrence of the Inspector coming to the house to question the family. This is to make it clear that if man does not learn anything from his mistakes he will be condemned to repeat them until he does. It also invites the reader to think about which of the characters might behave differently when the real Inspector arrives. When the real Inspector calls I think that Sheila will behave differently, because she has now changed her views on society and now feels more responsible for others and how her actions affect them. She might also own up straight away rather than trying to hide what she did unlike her mother, father and Gerald. I think that Sheila has undergone a true change as a result of this experience. She has learned something and I dont think that she is too keen to let it go, whoever that Inspector was, it was anything but a joke. You knew it then. You began to learn something. And now youve stopped. Youre ready to go on in the same old way. I remember what he said, how he looked, and what he made me feel. I think this quote proves the change in her attitude and she has become a more admirable person at the end of the play than at the beginning. She seems to have broken free of the spoiled brat label. Explaining Sheila has taught me that you are a better person if you are watchful of others and take responsibility for your actions.
